Oyo/Osun Customs Generate N71.2bn Revenue in 2023






The Oyo/Osun Area Command  of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced that it has recorded the cumulative sum of ₦71,292,530,398.17 (Seventy-One Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety-Two Million, Five Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety-Eight Naira, Seventeen Kobo) for the fiscal year of 2023. 



 The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo stressed that the significant contribution to the Nation’s economic development was made possible despite the global and local challenges that impacted trade.


The Area Controller, added that the command was able to achieved this through fair and efficient revenue collection, continuous implementation of measures to further simplify customs processes and the resolve of Command Officers and Men to work tirelessly
Dr Ben Oramalugo made this known while highlighting the remarkable achievements and challenges encountered by the Command in the year 2023, during the first press conference held at the command office on Friday.


"During the period covering November and December 2023, the Oyo/Osun Area Command collected the sum of ₦5,030,694,597.05 (Five Billion, and Thirty Million, Six Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Five hundred and Ninety-Seven Naira Five Kobo) and ₦7,173,852,130.48 (Seven Billion, One Hundred and Seventy-Three Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty Naira, Forty-Eight Kobo) respectively into the Federation and Non-Federation Accounts". 

"When added to the sum of ₦59,087,983,670.64 (Fifty-Nine Billion, and Eighty-Seven Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy Naira, Sixty-Four Kobo) already collected for the period of January to October 2023, the cumulative sum of ₦71,292,530,398.17 (Seventy-One Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety-Two Million, Five Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety-Eight Naira, Seventeen Kobo) was collected for the fiscal year of 2023". 

 The controller also noted that for the period of 1st January to 18th January 2024 the Command has also intercepted and seized contraband goods with its duty paid value (DPV) amounting to 30,464,500.00 

He further stated" looking ahead to 2024, the Oyo/Osun Area Command is committed to building upon the successes of the past year and addressing the challenges with renewed vigor".

"Our strategic focus areas include, Enhanced Collaboration,Technology Integration, Capacity, Building, Community Engagement,Efficiency in Operations,the Command will attempt to streamline its processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and encourage compliant traders. 

The controller, however on behalf of the Nigeria Customs Service, extend its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State Engr. Seyi Makinde and the residents of Bodija in Ibadan.

His words "The recent explosion that occurred in the Bodija area which is very close to the Command Headquarters on the Tuesday 16th of January 2024 has left our hearts heavy with grief, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic incident".
