Succor as Oyo Govt Gifts Iseyin, Iwajowa, Kajola farmers Agric Inputs
About 260 farmers in Iseyin, Iwajowa and Kajola local governments axis of Oyo state has benefited from receiving agricultural farm input initiated by OYO-Cares programmes in collaboration with the World Bank under the Oyo State Agribusiness Agency (OYSADA).
The agricultural farm inputs given to farmers by the agency were rice seeds, cassava cuttings, tomatoes seeds, maize seeds, herbicides, fertilizers among others.
Handling over the items to the farmers,
the state coordinator for Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus,(N-Cares) Result Area 2, Mr. Kolawole Bamigbola, stressed that the project was done in line with Gov Seyi Makinde' plan to cushion the effect of COVID 19 pandemic on farmers across the 33 local governments of the state.
Bamigbola while speaking with newsmen at Iseyin Local Government Secretariat on Wednesday explained that
out of a total number of 80 farmers who benefitted in Iseyin LG, 50 of them are tomatoes farmers, while the other 30 rice farmers, in addition, received 10kg of rice seeds, 2 emergence herbicides and 1 liter of post-emergence herbicide.
He said in Iwajowa LG, 100 farmers benefited, of which each of 70 cassava farmers received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, and one liter of herbicide, while the rest 30 which are maize farmers received 10kg of maize seeds, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, 1 liter of pre-emergence herbicide and one liter of post emergence herbicides each.
In Kajola LG however, out of 80 beneficiaries, 70 farmers who plant cassava received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer and 1 liter of herbicide, while the other 10 rice farmers received 10kg of rice seeds, 1 liter of pre-emergence and 1 liter of post-emergence herbicides, with 2 bags of NPK fertilizer each in Okeho, the Secretariat of the local government.
While appreciating the kind gesture, the chairman of Iseyin Local Government who was ably represented by the Director of Agriculture for the local government, Mr. Oyebisi Abraham Oyedokun, and the Acting Chairman of Kajola local government, Hon. Gideon Oyediran Bolanle, in their separate remarks laud Oyo Governor for supporting the farmers in their local governments.
They pleaded with the beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs given to them in order to compliment the efforts of the state government in ensuring food security across all the geo political zones of the state.
Some of the beneficiaries including Alahaja Adediran Mutiyat, from Iseyin, and Mallam Bello Muhammed from Kajola appreciated the state governor for the financial capacity to cultivate this farming season.
