INEC Speaks On Campaign Rules As Presidential Campaign Activities Ends in Two Days

Independent Electoral Commission( INEC) on Monday appealed to political parties to adhere strictly to campaign rules and regulations as general election draw closer.

Dr. Adeniran Tella, The Oyo INEC Resident  Electoral Commissioner(REC) while speaking during the sensitization meeting in Ibadan said "It is no longer news that campaign activities for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections commenced from Wednesday, 28th September 2022 and it is expected to come to an end at midnight of Thursday, 23rd Feb. 2023"

 "Also the Governorship and House of Assembly Elections campaign activities began in Oct. 12th 2022 and will come to an end at midnight of Thursday 9th March 2023 respectively.”

“I hereby implore political parties and candidates to keep to the rules and regulations of campaign activities just as the election draws close.

The Oyo Rec, who also stated that out of 3,276.675 eligible registered voters in Oyo State, only 2,325,372 PVCs has been  collected so far,  stressed that the total number of old PVCs collected was 2,088,558, while the total number of collected new/fresh registration PVCs was 236,814.

He stressed further, “As I speak to you now, we have a total number of 3,276.675 eligible registered voters in Oyo State.”

Representative of Oyo state Commissioner of Police, ACP Ekenem Oseni while speaking on behalf of CP. Adebowale Williams said Amidst the issue of fuel scarcity , the commission is working hand in hand with other security agencies to protect lives and properties and as well  free and fair elections. 

The state National Orientation Agency (NOA) state coordinator, Mr. Olukayode Ojedokun called for calm amidst all the challenges faced by Nigerians.

He said, “I have come to understand that each time we have challenges we overcome it, these challenges too we shall overcome it, we must come out and vote, because we believe in Nigeria concept and by being patience everything shall fall in places as we want it.”

The meeting had in attendance members of various political parties, civil society organisations, security agencies, members of Inter Party Advocacy Council (IPAC), religious heads among other stakeholders.
