Customs records 7,951 seizures, include 39 Bales of Secondhand Clothing, among others


The Nigeria Customs Service Oyo/ Osun Commands said it has recorded 7,951 seizures from January to July 2019.

The Area Comptroller, Abdullahi Zulikifli during a press briefing at Customs House, Ibadan, said the seizures which include 6,067 bags of rice, 730 kegs of vegetable oil, 966 pieces of Used tyres, 93 vehicles, 50 bag of Sugar, 39 Bales of secondhand clothing and Six Bundles of textile material.

Abdullahi who gave the breakdown of the seizures said 35 suspects has been arrested in connection with the seizures, 5 charged to Court, others on bail.

The Comptroller said the command has ensured that it leaves no stone unturned in combating smuggling and the challenges posed by smugglers, as it continues to intensify intelligence and operational strategies in the course of suppressing smuggling and generating more revenue.

He added that the commamd  will continue to engage and educate the local business communites on security and Economic implications of smuggling.
