Oyo Govt Proscribes NURTW


The Oyo State government on Friday proscribed activities of the State branch of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

These was contain in a press release issued and signed by Governor Seyi Makinde, stating that all parks and garages henceforth has been taken over by the state government and that it has taken over the union's activities with immediate effect.

The effect was as a result of the recent violence unleashed by factional members of NURTW in the State capital on Thursday, May 30, 2019.

In a Press release issued and signed by Governor Seyi Makinde, it added that all parks and garages henceforth has been taken over by the state government.

The statement read by the Chief of Staff to the Oyo State government, Chief Oyebisi Ilaka, reads that "while appreciating the good people Oyo State for their steadfastness overtime and support for this administration, we stand on the need to maintain peace and transquility in the state in order to engender commercial and human development".

“After today's delibration, with security and stakeholders meeting, involving security chiefs and the governor, we have resolved to procribe the NURTW in this state until further notice.”

The statement further urged residents in the State to go about their lawful duties without fear of molestation as combined security task force, stressing that, activities of the union is considered illegal henceforth.

“Parks and garages in the state has been taken over by the Oyo State Government with immediate effect.”
