Seyi Makinde promises to remain loyal to campaign pledges

The Oyo State Governor-Elect, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday affirmed his loyalty towards fulfilling the promises he made during campaign immediately after taking an oath of office.
Makinde who pledged that the critical sectors of education, health and job creation would top his priority list, promised to ensure the implementation of policies in the interest of the masses.
Makinde while addressing newsmen at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan, maintained that his victory in the just concluded election was as a result of the trust the people had in him, promising not to ddissapoint the masses.
"My victory was just like the farmer’s revolt, which clearly showed the people’s dogged determination in spite of spirited efforts to frustrate them.”
“The political struggle of the past weeks by the people of Oyo state, particularly the elections which took place yesterday leading to my emergence as your next governor come May this year, reminds me of the Agbekoya struggle of 1968.”
“I compare the two historical events because while the original Agbekoya struggle of 50 years ago was a peasant revolt that kicked against high taxation and tariffs, particularly of farmers by the powers that be, Saturdays voting pattern, clearly showed your dogged determination in spite of spirited efforts to frustrate the masses.
I appreciate our leaders , Senator Adewolu Ladoja together with Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin of the ADC, Barr. Sharafadeen Alli of the Zenith Labour Party, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde of the SDP, Sen. Monsura Sumonu and others who decided to relegate their own ambitions and support me for the greater good of the masses.
Makinde also lamented over the killing of a member of the House Representative, Hon.Temitope Olatoye (sugar) and some others, describing the incident as “an unfortunate dent on the nation’s democracy.
He assured the families of the deceased that the evil perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted.
