Nigeria Police reshapes SARS Operations, holds Oyo state sensitization campaign

In an effort to rebrand the Special Anti Robbery Squad ( SARS), of the Nigeria Police Force, organized a nationwide sensitization awareness campaign, has been organised for the operatives.

The command as well releases new  Dress Code for SARS personnel across the country.

The leader of the special committee from the Force headquarters on the sensitization awareness campaign to the South West, DCP Adepoju Ilori, disclosed this in Ibadan, on Tuesday, stated that the order from the Inspector-General of Police was in compliance with the recent Presidential directive that followed deluge of complaints from members of the public.

"Under the new dispensation, specifically, no SARS personnel should be seen having dread lock, tattoo on the body, or wearing rings or growing beards. Neither
should they also be seen going about in jeans or T-shirts and jackets with arms and ammunitions.

"SARS operatives should no longer be seen wearing any other dress aside the normal police uniform while on duty carrying arms and ammunitions.

" SARS teams are henceforth to use clearly marked vehicles showing the Command from which they are operating while each of the vehicles will be numbered serially for identification. Their uniforms too will be clearly marked. But there might be a situation where they might need to use unmarked vehicles depending on the nature of the operation"

DCP Ilori said, the measures are being taken by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to differentiate SARS personnel from armed robbers and
kidnappers who allegedly camouflage as operatives thus wreaking havocs
on innocent members of the public.

He added that the SARS will no longer be doing ‘stop and search’.
Rather, they will respond to distress calls.
