Seyi Makinde gives out 50m to education; says the gesture is beyond politics


A governorship aspirant under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Oyo State, Engineer Oluwaseyi Makinde on Tuesday presented a bursary award of 50m to 2500 indigene students of Oyo state.

The bursary scheme which was launched by the aspirant in year 2016, was aimed at empowering and assisting youths for self development.

Speaking at the 2018 edition of the scheme in Ibadan, Makinde disclosed that a total number of 2,500 students were shortlisted out of 10,000  tertiary students who applied for this year bursary scheme.

The aspirant further stated that the selection of the lucky beneficiaries
was not based on political  affiliation even though its political season.

"I know this is the political season, but this kind gesture is beyond politics, the selection by the members of the board and director was transparent. We didn't select the beneficiaries because of party affiliation, religious or biaground, they are selected because they are indigenes of Oyo State".

" God created me for a purpose, and part of the purpose is to make something meaningful out of my environment.

Makinde charged the beneficiaries to emulate the kind gesture in future, noting that one good turn deserves another.

He said " If I can do this, then you also can do the same in the nearest future".

The aspirant mentioned that his policy team are currently working to look at the sources of fund to ensure adequate funding of the educational sector in the state, if elected in 2019.

Come May 2019, the state education sector will wear a new look, i see education as the  only way raise good leaders, reason why I will ensure teachers are adequately motivated. I will also  implement the policy of 30 students per class, and schools will be  properly equipped.
