Oyo Govt releases deaf land
The Oyo State government has declared the immediate release of the 20 acres of land belonging to deaf persons in the state.
This came in response to a peaceful protest staged by members of the Christian Mission for the Deaf on July 9 in Ibadan, on the alleged illegal acquisition of 20 acres of land from its 39 by the Oyo State Government.
Recall that the group members on July 9 assembled at the front of the state secretariat carrying placards with various inscriptions " Oyo state government should not forcefully occupy the deaf land, the deaf has the right to live a better life, do not resettle people on our land, do not oppress the deaf, we need more than 39 acres for the proposed deaf university.
Mr Isaac Omodewu, the State Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Survey, made this known at a forum organised by the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalist(NUJ) in Ibadan.
Omodewu while declaring his intention to run for the gubernatorial seat to consolidate on the effort of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, in prioritizing the educational sector said the land was released on the basis of a proposed deaf university.
Omodewu said though the 20 acres land was acquired by a past administration, but the present government is putting all in place to make education accesible for all and sundry.
The commissioner stressed that his experience and involvement in the present administration gave him the edge to succeed Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
