Five killed in Ibadan bodija market crisis








It was gloomy on thursday in ibadan as five people were alledgedly killed at Bodija abattoir market during a clash between the butchers and a security team detailed to enforce movement of butchers to the new centre at Amosun village, along Oyo road.

Speaking at the scene, The Oyo State Commissioner of police, Abiodun Odude, confirmed that two people lost their lives.

According to him, "We understand that at least two people were gun down as there was an attempt to attack this police station, we quickly mobilized and we have salvaged it".

It was learnt that the five people allegedly killed include three butchers, a boy picking aluminium scraps by the roadside and a female fashion designer.

An eye witness told newsmen that it all began when the enforcement team stormed the market and were shooting into the air to scare the butchers away.

Recall that the Oyo State Governor had earlier gave a directive saying that the butchers must relocate, latest by the end of April, to the abattoir located in Amosun village, Akinyele Local Government, Ibadan.

The Southwest Coordinator, of the Butchers Association, Alhaji Biliaminu Elesinmeta, and the State Chairman, Alhaji Azeez Alagunfona were present at the stakeholders’ meeting where the directive was given.
