2 millon teachers have been licensed to practice in Nigeria -TRCN


The Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) disclosed that about two million teachers had been licensed to practise in the country, saying it is mandatory to register with the council before anybody can practise as a teacher.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of TRCN, Prof. Segun Ajiboye, explained that"TRCN certificate is one of the criteria for employment. We’re collaborating with NUT (Nigeria Union of Teachers). Before you practise, you must take professional qualifications. It is compulsory to register and have the licence of practice.”

Ajiboye while speaking with newsmen recently at the Oyo state Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, gave his words that TRCN in Six states has succeded in the area of Teacher information System (TIS), and School Monitoring Project.

On maintaining  professionalism in teaching, the Registrar said the council will  ensure that teachers become truly professional to improve their worth.

On liberian President, George Weah request for over 6,000 Nigerian teachers to develop the educational sector of Liberia, the Council Registrar bustressed that only those teachers who are qualified and licensed would be sent there.
