Every household must have a waste bin - Oyo govt

The Oyo state government has made it mandatory for every household to have at least a waste bin as its begins operation show your wastebin or get your house sealed.

The state Commissioner for Environment Mr. Isaac Ishola who disclosed this added that the house to house check was a means of  waging war against environmental sanitation defaulters in the state.

 Briefing the newsmen at the state secretariat, the commissioner said that "Come next week monday, our people will embark on house to house check, this is to make sure that each household gets a waste bin, houses with non will be given a three days ultimatum to get, after which incompliance houses will be sealed".

 "If we seal your house and you go ahead to open your doors, then you are liable to a fine of N200,000 or face six months of jail term, while a defaulter of any sanitary  laws is liable to N50,000 fine or risk six months jail term.

"So for you that we seal your house you will be paying N250,000 for not having complily with Oyo State sanitary laws or face six months jail term." He added.

He said the minisrty will not relent in its efforts in promoting a serene and clean environment in oyo state

The Director General of Oyo State West Africa Energy Wastage Disposal Mrs. Ololade Oresanwo said "We all must understand that a clean environment is what we all should be aspire to have so that we can be hale and health.

Her words" If you could recalled Oyo State was known to be a dirtiest State in the country and since coming on board of this present administration things has totally change and we can now boost that the Ibadan metroplolis that was known for dirty has now wear a new look of beauty and we still need to do more as the level of compliance of our people with the sanitry law in the state is so low."

" So I don't want us to see government as been too harsh on people, each house is expected by the state government to have a waste bin in their premises and they must also have an authorize waste disposal to always come around twice in a week to pack their refuse".

I urge you to always ask for a reciept of Oyo State waste management each time you are paying for your waste collectors and this will save you from paying to some fraudster that are disguising to be an authorized waste disposal, I also commend the people of Ibadan for what we have on ground shows that 50% of Ibadan people have comply with the wastage uses and am using this medium to tell the rest people that they should come on board."

Oresanwo advised that" people should desist from burning their refuse as this will go a long way in affceting their neighbours that are paying legitimately for wastage disposal agency and even the entire of such area will be exhume by the flames of such burning, which will cause air pollution and air pollution is also an offend against Oo State ministry of environment."
