Enactment of private university has become a constituency project in Nigeria- ASSU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has  obsrved that, in Nigeria, establishment of private universities has become a constituency project, saying the reason every body is putting it at their backyard.

The chairman of ASUU, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr. Deji Omole, who disclosed this during the union visit to the correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, recently in Ibadan said it is a major challenge that the union need to sit down and fight.

Talking about the synergy between private and public institution, Omole said the private sector today is into business, and there's a limit to which the union can act.

According to him" It has been difficult for the union to moderate what's going on in private institutions because we are dealing with people that always do lip service to education, they are not being sencere to the educational sector..

Speaking on the union's agreement with the Federal government, he said  "on our agreement, we will continue to fight for a better quality education for d masses, but government deliberately wanted to kill public higher institution. We have a lot of job to do, we must make conscious effort to fight and build a benefitting country for the masses.
