Soldier led gang arrested for alleged hijack of fuel-laden truck
A five criminal gang led by a soldier, Corporal Akpan Edet, serving at the 81 Batallion of the Nigerian Army, Mokola, has been nabbed for allegedly hijacking fuel-laden truck along Akobo, Iwo road Ibadan.
The Oyo state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude paraded the suspects on Friday at the police command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo state.
Odude made it known that the soldier,28 and Onyeka Joshua,34, Onhonwen Raphael, 32, Ugo Monday, 31 and Ifeanyi Emmanuel, were responsible for waylaying and subsequently hijacking trucks along the expressway.
His words: “The gang led by the soldier,who was clad in full military camouflage, on November 17, 2017 at 2130 hours, hijacked a 40,000 litre truck with Registration Number ABUJA ABC 132 XA and abducted the driver and his motor boy to Omi-Adio area after robbing them of their money and other valuables.
“The truck was thereafter driven to Akure-Ilesa Road by some of the gang members. The alarm raised by the victims attracted some members of the community, who in collaboration with the police arrested them.
“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)of the command swung into action immediately, and further investigation carried out by the SARS yielded fruitful results as three other members of the gang were arrested in their various criminal hideouts in Ibadan and the truck eventually recovered.”
Similarly,the police command arrested an employee who ascounded with master's trucks and a Toyota Camry car belonging to a Chinese company.
The suspects, Olaronbi Saheed, 27, and Abdulkareem Yusuf, 35 stole six SINO trucks and sold it to one Ibrahim Babankulu,48 in kaduna at the rate of twenty Million naira, while the Toyota Camry was given to a yet to be identified pastor in Abuja.
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) following a petition written by the C.E.O of the company on 27 November this year, recover all the trucks alongside with two cars.
The suspects were among the 18 suspects paraded by the Oyo State police command at its headquarters.
