Oyo/Osun Customs records over 64millon DPV of seized items two months to xmas




The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/ Osun command said to have recorded #64,183,004.77k as the total duty paid value(DPV) of all seized items during the months of November and December 2017.

The Custom Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Command, comptroller Elisha Chikan made this known during a press briefing held today at customs house Ibadan.

  He said command in its intensified intelligence driven anti- smuggling efforts recorded the following seizures: 2,370 bags of rice, 1,000 pieces of used tyres, 135 bales of used clothes,1 used AUDI 80 Tokunbo car and 1 used Corolla car.

4 suspects were also arrested, subsequently granted conditional bail and will son be charged to court.

Chikan in his word said ," most of the goods were conveyed in trucks and other types of vehicle for doing legitimate businesses and conveyance of commuters, but now being used to perpetuate these evil acts.

Chikan disclosed that the command successfully recorded the seizures due to the relentless efforts and formidable intelligence gathering as well collaboration with other units such as that Headquarters Compliance Team, Federal Operations Units and the Customs Intelligence units.

He stated further that the comptroller General of Customs, Col.Hameed Ibrahim Ali(Rtd) has provided the service with enabling tools and environment for effective performances.

The area controller pleged that the Nigeria custom Service has zero tolerance for smuggling because of it's dire consequences on the nation's economy and security.

The Oyo/ Osun area controller however, assured all genuine importers and exporters within the command, of its support in facilitating their business, adding that the service will do everything within its capacity to fight smuggling to a standstill.

While enumerating some of the command achievements for the year, he said the command generated about #16 billion as against the 13billion generated within the same period in 2016, adding that there was an increase of 19.48% in the renue collection over the last year.
