Osinbajo, Obasanjo, Ajumobi , Others celebrate U.CH at 60 ; Launches Geriatric Rehabilitation Centre
The Vice President, Federal Republic Of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Former President , Olusegun Obasanjo, Oyo Governor. Abiola Ajumobi, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Olubadan of Ibadan. Oba Saliu Adetunji, AFe Babalola and others registered their presence at the 60th years anniversary celebration of the University College Hospital
( U.C.H) Ibadan, Oyo State.
Also Commissioning of Sir Kensington Adebutu Geriatric Rehabilitation Center and the turning of the Sod Of the U.C.H. Cancer Centre took place.
Prof. Osinbajo, disclosed that the federal government of Nigeria is on its toes to provide affordable and solid health care services
Speaking on the geriatric centre, Osinbajo said' This is the first of its kind in Africa, this makes it clearer that government alone cannot adequately fund most of the infrastructure, for the first time in almost a decade we are spending as much as 20% of our budget on infrastructure".
"We have to commend the efforts of the hospital for adopting PPP initiatives in many curves of service delivery" He added.
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo said, there was no doubt that a healthy nation should naturally match a more productive workforce and the corollary Is that poor health indices spell doom for any nation.
He stated further "The current state of our tertiary health care institutions including the University College Hospital, Ibadan is worrisome because of the poor funding, challenging and ageing infrastructures and recurrent strike actions of the health workers".
Commending the effort of the hospital, he said " U.C.H has truly led the other health care institutions in top class health care delivery, real cutting edge research and I know that it is the preferred choice for training by every professional group in the health sector ".
He encouraged the University to come up with a robust plan that will see the institution transcend mediocrity and attain a more enviable position in the world ranking.
Governor Abiola Ajumobi, said over the years, University College Hospital being the leading institution in Nigeria dictates the standard by which medical achievement in the state could be measured.
Governor Ajimobi noted that Oyo is the first state to introduce health insurance scheme and one of the five top investment destination in Nigeria.
Ajimobi who stated that the institution tagged Ibadan, the most unique state in Nigeria, assured that Oyo state will resume its hope on raising the country forward
Chief Medical Director of UCH Prof. Tope Alonge said " the non availability of a suitable hospital on Ibadan equitable to the University College Hospital, London that would provide the required trainning facilities for the medical students of the new University College.
