IWO Monarch calls for enactment of Enlightenment Act to aid Africa's development -
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Rosheed Akanbi, has called for the enactment of the Enlightenment Act in addressing the superstitions and myth surrounding some of the cultural beliefs retarding growth and development in Africa.
The monarch who attributed lack of development in the African continent to corruption of cultures and traditions said "Our tradition and culture have been corrupted and we must start fighting corruption in those areas if we crave meaningful development
Speaking in ibadan, at the opening ceremony of this year, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) week, held at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ sectariat on Monday, the royal father noted that corrupt traditional system retards Africa's development.
Oba Akanbi submitted that development in African continents would only occur when the traditional system is well sensitised.
The governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, ably represented by his commissioner for information, culture and tourism, Toye Arulogun,
urged the journalists to work hand in hand with the present administration to take the state to greater heights.
The NUJ president, Waheed Odusile, who was represented by the union's B Zone Vice President, Mr. Cosmos Oni, pleaded support from governments and corporate world ensuring safety of journalists across the globe.
Odusile who commended the effort of the the state chairman Comrade Adewumi Faniran in lifting the union through innovative ideas,also urged pen pushers to get involved in the ongoing biometric registration to enhance professionalism in the field.
