Oyo workers crave payment of salary in due time



Workers in Oyo State have called on the state government to pay outstanding salaries and pension owed members.

The call was made today in Ibadan during workers day celebration held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Waheed Olojede, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Oyo State Chapters said " We are not comfortable as leaders, looking at the faces of our members been frowned all the time because of the arrays of unpaid arrears of salaries and pension, worker's promotion are no more coming as at when due. We understand these backlogs and we will continue to engage the government to ensure the backlogs of salaries and pensions are paid

He gave his word that the leadership of NLC in collaboration with Trade Union Congress(TUC) and Joint Negotiating Council would continue work together to alleviate their sufferings.

In the same vein ,Mr Olusegun Abatan, the Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners(NUP) lamented
"As I am speaking to you, the state government is owing state pensioners four months, while retired Primary School Teachers are owed 56 months pension arrears and have not been paid gratuity since 2008.

However Gov. Abiola Ajimobi earlier in his speech promised that the state government would not relent in its efforts to ensure that the backlog of salaries and pension was cleared.

Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Adeyemo gave kudos to workers for their commitment and loyalty even in the face of the present economic challenges.
